Mitigating the Bias in Converted Bistatic Radar Measurements Using the Unscented Transform

Converting measurements from sine-space coordinates to Cartesian coordinates has been shown to introduce biases into the measurements. This issue occurs in long-range radar or radars with high range resolution. Previous work that derived the expressions for these biases and provided methods for removing them has focused on the monostatic radar case. In our research, we have provided the equations for transforming from bistatic sine-space coordinates to sensor-relative Cartesian and derived expressions for the biases. However, deriving the biases relies on a linearization of the transform equations, since no closed form is available for the sine-space transformation biases. In this paper, we present an approach to the bistatic conversion that uses the unscented transform, which does not require linearization, and compare this approach with the linearized debiasing method.
