Results of a survey on the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders and risk factors among electronic industry workers

To investigate the prevalence of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) in sedentary workers and analyze the risk factors between the MSDs and the operation. Method: 1636 sedentary workers who worked in the electronic industry and 1135 controls were selected in this study. To collect data regarding the subjects and their workplaces, the methodologies employed included survey, physical examination, and work environment audits. Results: The results showed that the prevalence rates of work-related musculoskeletal disorders WMSDs) of neck (WMSDs-N), shoulder (WMSDs-S), wrist and hand (WMSDs-WH) and low back low back pain, LBP) disorders were higher than those of control groups (p<0.01). Subjects experienced physical signs of musculoskeletal disorders, such as press tenderness or limited movement in the neck, shoulders, and low back, in a rate that is significantly higher than those in the control group (p<0.05, p<0.01, respectively). Conclusions: The yearly incidence of WMSDs in this study corresponds with many other studies. Prolonged seated posture is one of the risk factors for WMSDs amongst electronic industry workers. Duration of sitting posture and the length of service were important risk factors to WMSDs amongst sedentary workers.
