This report presents the final test results of the first Russian stationary supercritical water oxidation (SCWO) pilot plant. This plant was shown to eliminate toxic and hazardous organic wastes and energetic organic materials with very high efficiency. Acetone was used as the fuel with hydrogen peroxide or air and ammonium nitrate as the oxidants in the tests. It was shown that the oxidation of many organic mixtures was about 99.9%. The mobile SCWO pilot plant is a new concept in Russia and has many advantages over competing processes. Advantages of the mobile SCWO units are flexible and easy delivery to an industrial locations, rapid assessment of the process efficiency for the oxidation of target wastes, operation within crowded locations and closed spaces (e.g., ships, underground facilities, etc.), and low cost of equipment and operation. Mobile SCWO plants could occupy a separate application niche or serve as an auxiliary facility rather than as a competitor with stationary SCWO plants. A new efficient compact reactor concept for the SCWO treatment of a wide range of wastes has been developed.
