BAG LEAK ALARM SETUP (OR GETTING TO KNOW YOUR BAGHOUSE)

In recent years the performance of air pollution control devices has been brought into operating permits, especially baghouses. EPA published a guidance document for bag leak detectors (EPA - 454/R-98-015) that discusses the establishment of alarms for pulse-jet baghouses based on one mode of operation. The real-world has a wide range of baghouse types, configurations and operational modes. Therefore you have to understand you baghouse before you can establish meaningful alarm points. This document and presentation will provide a background of different types of baghouses and operational modes as well as proven methods for establishing bag leak alarm settings. A brief history will be provided on key characteristics for baghouses that conduct on-line cleaning, like pulse-jets, as well as ones that clean off-line, like shakers, sonic horns and reverse-air baghouses. The operational characteristics for each baghouse is different, therefore different techniques are required to monitor for abnormal performance and/or broken bags.
