Effects on Residual Stress Distributions of TC4 Alloy Surface by Laser Shock Processing

The surface of TC4 alloy was processed by LSP (laser shock processing), residual stresses and surface roughness of TC4 alloy by LSP were measured, and comparing test of fatigue strength was done. The test results are shown that the values of compressive residual stress in the concave by LSP are about -350 ~ -450 MPa, carrying capacities of TC4 alloy by LSP improve more about 150MPa than that of mechanical peening. The roughness in the area by LSP decrease one rate, and the roughness values inside of cave by LSP obey normal distribution. Strengthening layer of microstructure refinement by LSP is acquired on the surface, and strengthening effects of TC4 alloy by LSP is very obvious, and residual stresses increase greatly. Parameters of pulse laser are reasonably chose, the surface roughness is satisfied with the experiment request, and it effectively improves anti-fatigue service life of TC4, which increase mechanical properties of material.
