Dry Direct Mirror Grinding and Polishing of Cylindrical Surface by Abrasive Belt with Extra-fine Grit on a General Lathe

With the development of coated abrasives, especially the extra-fine-grit abrasive belt having come into being, the traditional mirror-like grinding methods or processes will have to be changed in order to achieve higher economic, machining and environmental efficiency. A practical simple approach, together with the setup design scheme and the test results, to realize mirror-like processing for cylindrical surface, is demonstrates just on a generally purpose lathe. The various advantages of the method can be found, comparatively, as simpler procedure, less transfer job and fewer equipments, lower cost, and higher performance or productivity.
