Diamond Abrasive Reamer (DAR) is an innovative tool for bore finishing, and is widely used in machining precision bore. It is made through wrapping diamond grits to tool substrate by electrodeposited metal bond. In light of electroplating process, the manufacturing technique can be divided into outside-holding electroplating, which is conventionally used in practice, and inside-holding electroplating, which has much advantage than former, but is rarely used in practice due to its complexity. In the paper, the machining mechanism of diamond abrasive reamers is introduced, and inside-holding electroplating process is found to be suited for producing the diamond reamer. The structure of inside-holding electroplating diamond reamer is presented and some characteristics are discreetly analyzed. The main manufacturing process and key techniques of inside-holding electroplating diamond reamer are investigated, and technology of inside-holding electroplating diamond reamer with electrolyte-flowing and abrasive-rotating is presented and corresponding experiment devices are developed. With technique presented in the paper, the diamond reamer's uniformity height in abrasives layer is highly improved.
