A fundamental problem in the development of services for next generation mobile technologies is the identification of user needs and requirements to achieve successful customer-orientated services. This paper focuses on the early phase of the development cycle for location-based services in order to identify and evaluate future user requirements for novel mobile service concepts and designs. A rapid prototype in combination with non-standard market research methods is used to generate information about customer related needs, requirements, problems, and new service ideas.
