Gas Fired Unitary Climate Control Via Advanced Ammonia-Water Absorption

Ambian Climate Technologies is developing a gas fired product family for residential and light commercial climate control employing advanced ammonia-water absorption technology. The first product, a 5RT air conditioner, has been fully prototyped and underwent the design for manufacture process. Cooling capacity and energy efficiency results exceeded expectations at elevated ambient temperatures as well as part load conditions. Seasonal coefficient of performance is approximately 0.84 and full load cooling capacity is over 60,000 Btu/hr. The product family also includes chiller heaters and heat pumps covering the capacity range from 3Rt to 5RT. First prototype heat pump operation led to a heating efficiency of COP=1.6 at the 47F ARI rating conditions with tests at lower ambient temperatures underway. The design of the product family allows for the use of exhaust heat from on-site generation equipment with only one component alteration.
