ASSESSMENT OF HANDHELD INSTRUMENTS FOR TETRAHYDROTHIOPHENE MEASUREMENTS: GAZ DE FRANCE EXPERIENCE

Although Gaz de France is practicing centralized odorization, the need to assess the performances of handheld instruments for tetrahydrothiophene (THT) measurements was raised. The operators of a gas distribution network may need instruments that require no special knowledge and are designed for measurements on site in order to perform quick checks of the odorant concentration. Thus, the R&D division of Gaz de France decided to carry out tests to study four commercial instruments. This paper will describe the results of each instrument concerning the facility of use, its accuracy, its cross sensitivities and costs.
