A new concept of heating developed by Universal Vortex has been applied to prevent freezing in the pressure control devices. The Vortex Pilot Gas Heater (VPGH) is a heating devise for pilot operated gas pressure regulators. The VPGH releases a decompressed gas flow internal energy, converts it into a thermal flux and applies the generated heat to the pilot gas and for self-heating. The VPGH has no moving parts, therefore needs no maintenance to operate. The VPGH has proven to perform efficiently over the broad range of the operational parameters, even handling a single pressure cut of over 1000 psi gas pressure differential. The Vortex Farm Tap Station (VFTS) utilizes the same physics as the VPGH to generate heat. Since there is no pilot gas to heat, the entire generated thermal energy is applied for selfheating to secure the VFTS’s single stage non-freeze pressure cut. The VFTS, which has no moving parts, is a cost effective and space saving alternative to provide a reliable gas supply at remote locations. The VPGH’s and VFTS’s long-term benefits include no lost gas, operational and maintenance dollar savings, and high on-line reliability. The VPGH and VFTS are easily retrofitted to existing system.
