SUCCESSFUL USE OF PALM AND PC FOR FIELD LEAK SURVEY DATA COLLECTION AND TRACKING

This paper discusses the specification, development and implementation of a software system for handheld data capture of leak survey information for natural gas distribution systems. It provides a brief background, both regulatory and operating, for the leak survey process. It describes the decision process that led the AGL Resources to partner with Southern Cross Corporation and GTI to develop a Palm-based system for collecting and tracking leak data. The process of developing the specifications for the software is discussed along with the specifications themselves. The hardware and software components of the final solution are described, as well as the benefits provided by the resulting systems. The paper describes the how the software was implemented at the company.
