A model magnet for high gradient 70 mm aperture superconducting low- beta insertion quadrupoles has been developed at KEK as part of the collaboration between CERN and KEK for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) prject. A design field gradient of 240 T/m at 1.9 K is to be achieved at a current of 7,700 A with a peak field of 9.6 T in the coil. This paper describes status of the model magnet development at KEK.
