Future servers are expected to handle a large number of ocnnections with different Qulaity of Service (QoS) requirements.Noetworks,e.g.,based on ATM technology,provide QoS via standardized traffic parameters.While the control at the network edge cna handle these parameter,support for generating dequate trafric patterns (shaping) in hte end-systems is limited ude to hardware restrictions.This pape rpresents a software-based cell-level schedular fro ATM with advanced shaping mechanisms supporting priorities and fair sharing in overload situations.Furthermore,a scalable integratin of the cell-levle scheduling and the scheduling of DMA transfers is shown.
