摘要

Upper ocean heat and salt balances in the western Pacific warm pool region are analyzed using fixed thickness method for 3 cruises of the TOGA COARE survey from November 1992 to December 1993. Results show that the upper ocean has multiscale response to the Intraseasonal Oscillations. Generally, the advection terms can not be neglected in order to balance the heat and salt budgets in the surface layer. Including the advection terms, the 0-50 m upper ocean heat budget is balanced within 10 watts per quare meters of the surface air-sea flux observations during the 3 cruises. Average rainrates yielded from the 0-50 m salt budget are 2.2 15 and 4.6 mm per day for the 3 cruises, respectively. These estimates are very close to the rain gauge measurements during the same periods.
