Interface characteristic between different fluids, for example between gas and liquid, is one of most interesting problems for multiphase flow . In the paper, the flow pattern for gas/liquid twophase flow in a horizontal pipe is studied and the interface characteristics is analyzed by image processing method, which includes edge detecting, boundary searching, frame extracting, area filling ,boundary trimming etc., and the relationship that flow pattern changes with gas flow rate and liquid flow rate is obtained and some basic characteristics for slug flow are concluded . It is a new method for studying multiphase flow.
