The Science and Technology Agency (STA), collaborating with NASDA and JSUP, has promoted "Space Utilization Frontiers Joint Research," where private research laboratories, universities, corporations and national research institutes have participated for the coming Space Station era. This project has included "Basic Research on Combustion" among several microgravity utilization researches which was established and has been developed by Dr. S. Kumagai and his followers since 1950s. This paper presents the joint research structure, unified objective of the Basic Research on Combustion, the preliminary results obtained at NAL of STA and the first sounding rocket (TR-IA) experiment plan of fuel spray combustion to be launched on Sept. 15,1996.
