In this paper, the waste particles of magnesite which pollute the environment is employed as a sorbent for sulphur dioxide removal. The processes of its calcination and sulphation of its calcines were investigated by experiment. Influence of calcination temperature on the BET surface area of the calcines was determined. The dependence of the reacting properties of MgO,such as the initial reaction rate and the extent of conversion at 2 hours of reaction,on sulphation temperature was also presented here. It was found that the initial reaction rate of MgO sulphation was related to the initial specific surface area of MgO and the sulphation temperature is significant for the reacting properties of MgO.
