Determination of the supply quality for specific consumers and ways to improve this supply quality

The authors suggest that if a power supply company wish to aim at a certain supply quality it must also be able to check whether or not the quality standard is upheld. The supply quality for a specific consumer, however, cannot be determined by means of statistics alone but calls for supplementary calculations based on the components and topology of the network. The authors describe a method of calculation of interruption frequency and duration, especially with a view to the interruption time used for the localization of faults in the MV network. Further, the results of an investigation are described in which the method was used for a comparison of the supply reliability for ring networks, feeder networks, and satellite networks. The description comprises the improvements of the supply quality which can be obtained by the use of short-circuit indicators, remote control switches, and emergency generators.
