The role of sensors is particularly relevant in the current 4.0 Era. In fact, the 4.0 paradigm thrives on data provided by sensors. On such basis, this work addresses the use of brain computer interface (BCI) and augmented reality (AR) as User's input/output interfaces with sensors. Following a User-centered approach to 4.0 Era applications, the aforementioned technologies are expected to facilitate human interaction with the surrounding sensory environment in this new Era. For the sake of example, this work presents an overview of three experimental case studies addressed by the Authors: two in the industrial field and one in the medical field. Although experimented in specific field, the obtained results and the supporting considerations can be readily extended to any other 4.0 Era application field.
