The increase of the power demand of the Argentine Interconnection System (SADI) according to the geographic and demographic characteristics has motivated the study of the HVDC transmission’s systems as an alternative for the bulk power transfer across long distances taking in count the technical and economic advantages in comparison to the conventional HVAC systems. The purpose of this technical paper is to determine and demonstrate the effectiveness of a new network security automatism based on an Automatic Generation Disconnection (AGD) scheme designed by contingency events in the SADI, considering the optimum operation point (minimum electrical losses) of the HVDC Bipole Link and seeking to obtain as result a comparison between the classic AGD scheme versus an optimized scheme that can be obtained through the power modulation of the HVDC Link and by this way, consolidate a new criteria that can be implemented during its future operation.
