Overload capacity is a key factor in motor design. When the asynchronous motor works in overload condition, the electromagnetic parameters will change drastically and cause huge loss, which seriously affect the stable operation of motor. This paper investigates the influence of overload operation on the electromagnetic parameters and loss characteristics of asynchronous motor. The analyses are performed on change of current and magnetic density under the influence of skin effect and magnetic saturation. Moreover, the loss distribution of motor under overload operation is statistically processed by loss calculation models, both at copper and iron. The results show that the stator and rotor current will increase rapidly, when the load torque increases. The magnetic density of the yoke in the iron core changes less, and the magnetic density of the tooth changes more. Copper and iron loss will also increase, affecting the performance of the motor. The results of this research provide technical support for the optimization design of asynchronous motor overload capacity improvement.
