Performance Improvement by Pattern Optimization of PCB Winding in Coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor

Coreless Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Motor (AFPM) is expanding its application more widely for its multiple advantages, in which Printed Circuit Board (PCB) winding is applied in coreless stator for better process control and flexible modulation design. There are variable layout patterns to design a PCB coil. To achieve better performance, non-overlap concentrated coil is studied in this article. And to minimum MMF unbalance, torque harmonics and rotor pull force, outer bridge connection among coils in one phase is mainly recommended. However, under different restrict with compromise among performance, process and structure, inner bridge can also be applied with optimized pattern. Simulation and calculation result is confirmed by actual test with prototype.
