This paper proposes and demonstrates the use of metamaterial unit cells to enhance the characteristics of microstrip antennas. The input reflection coefficient of the antenna was improved using the metasurface technique. The metasurface is built around a low-profile frequency reconfigurable antenna that is widely used in wireless and satellite communications. To place (4×5) metasurface unit cells on the ground plane, we used a group of two L-type shaped with centered C-type shaped and calculated the input reflection coefficient value. A negative metasurface with the novel epsilon negative (ENG) metasurface property is proposed.
