1. UVDOAS, FTIR, and TDLAS monitors each have the capability to measure particular compounds at low detection limits 2. Depending on the regulations in place, one or more of these instruments may be needed for modern fenceline monitoring programs 3. Over the last 18 months, nearly 100 open-path monitors-primarily UVDOAS and FTIR-have been successfully fielded around refineries in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles Basin and are currently operational. 4. An evaluation of a subset of these instruments show that the performance of the UVDOAS and FTIR instruments are very good when considering instrument uptime, data validity, instrument accuracy, MDL 5. TDLAS instruments have also showed good uptime under close scrutiny. Evaluation of data reliability is ongoing before real-time reporting is implemented at the required low detections levels 6. As instrument operations continue and additional refinements to all three types of instruments are made, we expect the performance of each type of monitor to continue to improve.
