NORA Based Group Paging Overload Control Method for Massive MTC Accesses Under 5G Networks

Group paging (GP) is a further improvement of pull-based random access paging method to deal with the congestion problem for massive MTC accesses. However, with the growth of the number of MTC devices, the performance of the existing GP method quickly decreases. In order to solve this problem, this paper proposes a new overload control method, namely NORA-GP, to combines group paging with nonorthogonal random access. In the NORA-GP method, users are grouped based on the distance between users and base station (BS) firstly, users in different groups have the probability to use the same preamble to achieve simultaneous access. Compared to classical GP and AGO, numerical results clearly demonstrate the better performance of NORA-GP in terms of: success and collision probabilities, average number of preamble transmissions, and resource utilization.
