Produced water clarifiers are designed to concurrently remove oil and solid dispersions. The control of both the underflow and clarified effluent streams play an important role in defining the thickening of both oils and solids. The implementation of a produced water clarifier simulator allows easily evaluate the the various flow control scenarios with regards to the thickening ratios of oil and solids. Furthermore, a marked tradeoff occurs between the thickening of oils and solids. Thus, highlighting the importance behind a thorough flow control analysis for the identification of the most desirable operating condition.
