A comprehensive examination of the dewaterability of aerobic granular sludge cultivated in continuous flow bioreactors fed with real domestic wastewater
The thickened AGS and AS showed similar dewaterability when polymer and shear were not involved. Sludge conditioning is essential in facilitating AGS dewatering after settling. However, a lower polymer consumption and a better dewatering performance at the optimal dose can be expected with aerobic granulation. Dewatering processes with low mechanical shear such as belt press and plate & frame press are more favored than processes with higher mechanical shear such as centrifuge for granular sludge.
