Based on personal experience, the author traces the path from acquaintance with the basics of programming in high school to the creation of a compiler for the Ada language as a university thesis. The article describes the role in this played by the newly introduced structures of teaching programming for schoolchildren, created for the first time in the USSR, focused not only on out-of-school education, but projecting the introduction of teaching programming to the mass school.
