Welding and welded joints of the heat-resistant plastics

Until recent time no scientific researches on weldability of new heat-resistant thermoplastics, known as polyarylenes, have been carried out in Ukraine. Present work concerns with investigations of technological peculiarities of the welding of heat-resistant thermoplastic polymers based on two representatives of polyarylene class, namely amorphous polyetherimide (PEI), and semi-crystalline polyetheretherketone (PEEK), which are among the most prospective and progressive construction materials. The results obtained shows the highest level of quality and strength reached in the world of the welded joints formed by the heated tool butt welding, and even more the level of quality and strength of the welded joints formed by ultrasonic and resistance welding higher than known in the field.
