The tendencies in the development of small hydroelectric power plant (SHPP) in the world and in Ukraine are examined in the article. The main factors stimulating the development of HPP in Ukraine are identified. The development of SHPP areas in Ukraine are considered. The scheme of automatic control system for SHPP is developed, which has a multi-level hierarchical structure allowing to increase the SHPP efficiency.
