An Economic Manufacturing Quantity Model for Deteriorating Items with Condition-Based Maintenance

This paper presents a model to simultaneously determine the optimal economic manufacturing quantity (EMQ) and the condition-based maintenance (CBM) policy with consideration of deteriorating inventory. The manufacturing system deteriorates stochastically with usage and the deterioration process is modelled by a gamma process. Furthermore, external shocks arriving to the system can also provoke the failure. We derive the explicit expression of the expected total cost by using renewal theory. The optimal joint policy is obtained numerically.
