In this paper, we demonstrate a novel side-hole birefringent photonic crystal fiber with a polycarbonate-filled ellipse core used for vertical pressure sensing. The influence of the structural characteristics on polarimetric pressure sensitivity dB/dp was studied by using the full-vector finite element method (FV-FEM). Simulation results indicated that these characteristics strongly affect the modal birefringence B_0 and the polarimetric pressure sensitivity dB/dp. The value of these at 1.55μm reaches as high as 5.84E-3 and 8.16E-5 MPa~(-1), respectively. Through the design of a high birefringent structure with polycarbonate core, the proposed fiber shows very good potential application prospects in the area of pressure sensing.
