The proposed active interrogation technique used highenergyinduced fission product gamma rays to measure freshfuel. Current external, passive gamma-ray verification techniquescan only verify fuel rods near the detector, so multiplemeasurements with passive gamma-ray detectors would havebeen necessary to determine the fuel configurations. The newactive interrogation technique only required a single measurementto di erentiate the configurations.This technique also provides a possible way to measurefresh fuel through shielding, specifically a shipping container.The high-energy fission products can penetrate through shieldingunlike the passive signature. Currently technology does notexist to verify fresh fuel in a shipping container [12]. Futurework will perform these simulations on a fresh fuel assemblymodeled inside of a shipping container.
