Field experiences with Porcilis~(TM) Ileitis: The newest tool for controlling Lawsonia intracellularis

Porcilis~(TM) Ileitis (Merck Animal Health, Madison, New Jersey, USA) was introduced to the US market in late 2015 as an aid in the control of ileitis caused by Lawsonia intracellularis, as an aid in the reduction of colonization by Lawsonia and as anaid in the reduction of duration of fecal shedding. Since then, the Merck Animal Health swine technical services team has conducted several field studies and diagnostic surveys to develop a thorough understanding of how to effectively utilize Porcilis Ileitis under field conditions. These activities to-date have focused on serological and molecular-based diagnostic testing strategies for understanding the pattern of infection in a herd, evaluating antibody responses following vaccination and exposure,and monitoring the level of fecal shedding to determine if a particular vaccination program is more effectively controlling L. intracellularis infection.
