A STUDY ON TIDAL FLOW AND SEDIMENT TRANSPORT IN THE NAVIGATIONAL CHANNEL OF MACAO INNER HARBOR

摘要

The government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (MSAR) plans to construct a new bridge over the Western Macao Channel. To meet requirements of bridge piers, the existing navigational channel has to be properly adjusted. As the Inner Harbor plays an important role in the development of Macao's economy, its sea-going navigational channel should be kept well. A key issue is to study the changes of the tidal flow and sediment conditions in the new channel after the construction. Due to the complexity of the tidal flow and sediment transport and the shortage of field measured data in the vicinity of the studied water area, in this study, various methods, including physical tidal scale model experiment numerical modeling, remote-sensing images and field data analysis, have been used. With these techniques, an integral method is formed and applied to the project. This paper briefly introduces the major research results obtained by the integral method.
