Destruction and defense of a closure dike was investigated experimentally. The main characteristic features of flow, to be modeled, are a relatively large vortex flow within the scour hole. The location of vortex is related to the depth of downstream reach. It is discovered that the vortex is the dominating reason of local scour on downstream of closure dike. We supposed that the circulation flux of vortex is conservational. A new formula is deduced for the computation depth of scour on downstream of closure dike. The relationships between scour length and scour depth are under study. These formulas can calculate scour depth and scour length. Riprap is an available measure to prevent destruction of the closure dike.
