Bio-impedance based sensor using organic polymer-membrane is presented in this paper. Membranes of Ca-alginate with glycerol as plasticizer was fabricated by slip casting method on glass substrates. After atmospheric heating treatment of the films at 60°C for 24 hours, the 50μm film membranes were obtained and used as a biosensor for characterizing beef and pork. Bio-impedance characterizations were carried out by LCR meter at room temperature. It was shown that the sensor operated finely at low frequency i.e. less than 40 kHz. Response of the sensor increased with the increase of sample mass and became constant after a critical mass. Finally, the bio-impedance response of beef and pork indicated different magnitude and it is therefore possible to apply the films membranes in bio-sensor applications.
