摘要

This paper presents the great potential and the state-of-the-art applications of superconducting materials in electric power system like superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL), superconducting magnetic energy storage system (SMES), etc. The main focus of the paper is in the field of efficient power transmission by using high temperature superconducting (HTS) cables. It is suggested to replace a short transmission overhead line (OHL) with HTS cable on a pilot basis. The paper establishes the superiority of HTS cable over OHL in terms of better available transfer capability (ATC) and better voltage stability of the system, via comparative simulation of the systems on PowerWorld Simulator 18.
