RAFT Polymerization of Hydroxy-functional Methacrylic Monomers under Heterogeneous Conditions: Effect of Varying the Core-forming Block

AB diblock copolymers can self-assemble in a solvent that is selective for one of the blocks to form a wide range of morphologies, including spheres, worms, cylinders and vesicles. In principle, these nano-sized structures could be utilized for several interesting applications, including as polymeric surfactants. However, their generation usually involves a post-polymerization processing step such as a solvent or pH switch that is typically conducted in dilute solution (< 1 %). This is a severe restriction for many potential commercial applications.
