摘要

Thamnaconus modestus (Giinther, 1877; http://www.fishbase.org) is a black scraper in the Family Monacanthidae, Order Tetraodontiformes. It is distributed in the Indo-West Pacific Ocean, all around Korean Penninsula, Japan, and China Sea, and west to East Africa. It is commercially cultured in Japan and Korea. In Korea, it is one of the most important filefish. However, the commercial catch has decreased continuously since 1990 due to over-fishing, habitat loss resulting from coastal area development,pollution, and other factors. In order to ease pressures on wild fisheries stocks, and to satisfy the growing consumption, this species must be increasingly produced through more effective aquaculture. Furthermore, to develop appropriate recovery and conservation management plans on this fishery species, understanding the patterns of genetic structure is becoming increasingly important. To meet these challenges, genetic background on black scraper populations must be fully understood with the application of molecular and biotechnological tools.
