Medical silk braided suture has become one of excellent and widely used sutures in the world.But bacteria prefer to adhere to the silk material and get into the interstices of braided sutures,increasing the risk of SSls.If suture is antimicrobial and can prevent bacteria attaching and growing onto it,it could reduce the probability of SSIs.In this paper,silk braided sutures were treated with antimicrobial agent ZL or ZLP and tested for diameter and In vitro efficacy against S.aureus and E.coli by a zone of inhibition assay.If suture samples had zones of inhibiton,they were transferred daily onto new Petri dishes growing a similar number of S.aureus.The assay was terminated when the zone of inhibition was disappeared.After treatment,sutures were a bit thicker than before.Only the diameters of sutures dipped with ZL,pressed with ZLP (1) and ZLP (5) remained Size 2-0.Sutures with ZL and ZLP exhibited distinct zones of inhibition against S.aureus and E.coli.All sutures dipped with ZL on a range of concentration just kept antimicrobial for 3 days.And the antimicrobial efficacy of sutures with ZLP on a range of treatment conditions continued for 4 days to 11 days,while Coated VICRYL* Plus Antibacterial Suture for 8 days.It can be concluded that medical braided silk sutures treated with ZL and ZLP provided In vitro antimicrobial efficacy against S.aureus and E.coli compared with untreated sutures.Sutures with ZLP demonstrated similar sustained antimicrobial efficacy against S.aureus as Coated VICRYL* Plus Antibacterial Suture.
