An Appraisal by Its Entrepreneurial Asnaf (Usahawan Asnaf) on Lembaga Zakat Selangor's Role in Ensuring Business Success: An Empirical Study on the Lembaga Zakat Selangor

Purpose - The purpose of this paper is to evaluate and measure the role of Lembaga Zakat Selangor in ensuring business success for its zakat recipients. Design/Methodology - A survey is employed in getting feedback from the recipients of zakat for small businesses under the scheme of Entrepreneurial Asnaf or Usahawan Asnaf Zakat. Findings - The respondents in general agree that the variables for the study which are capital, courses or training and knowledge or know-how are important to them in helping the zakat recipients to succeed in their businesses which then translated into the better standard of living. There is positive correlation shown for the three variables in determining the success rate of the programme and regression analysis shows 34% of the issue has been explained by the variables while Cronbach's alpha displays strong result at 0.803 for the items answered in the questionnaire. Research limitations/implication - This paper explores the other side of zakat distribution which is rarely investigates due to lack of similar program in other place. The hindrance would be in term of solid support from the respective parities; the management of LZS due to bureaucratic process which is understandable for them to protect certain confidential information and also unfavorable respondents' attitude when been questioned in which is a normal phenomenon in survey study. Practical implications - This paper provides insights into the implementation of entrepreneurial zakat which can be emulated by other zakat collection agencies to come out with similar or better innovative program for the benefit of the community. Originality/Value - This paper is unique since the feedback is given by the entrepreneur who receives financial assistance from Lembaga Zakat Selangor, which means the information derived the original source. The findings presented would be good information for the practitioners as well as for the academicians and students.
