Huge amounts of mineral dust are transported from Sahara and Sahel towards remote regions. Dust particles ( < 63μm) - because of their small size - are easily removed from the soil surface to the atmosphere. They are suspected to have an important impact on the the earth's radiation budget However, global impact modelling is still restricted by a lack of data on source and dust properties. Therefore, a project was initiated in the DEKLIM-framework, which aims at identification of these properties on a regional transect in Chad with one of the major Saharan sources the Bodele depression as the central area of interest.
