In the distributed fiber-optic sensing system for power grid, simultaneous measurement of temperature, strain and vibration based on Brillouin scattering and Rayleigh scattering in fiber could have wide applications. However, there are certain challenges for the case of multi-parameter sensing in power grid, including the interplay of different scattering mechanisms and the interaction of different types of sensing signals. In this paper, a multi-parameter distributed fiber-optic sensing system which can simultaneously measure temperature, strain and vibration is elaborately designed via integrating the signal of Rayleigh scattering and Brillouin scattering. The prototype with multi-parameter sensing capability was successfully developed and it was qualified for monitoring in optical fiber composite ground wire. Experimental results demonstrate that method has excellent potential for the maintenance of overhead transmission line and it is important to enhance the performances such as spatial resolution and measurement distance for further applications.
