Fraunhofer is the largest European organization for applied research including more than 60 institutes and employing more than 22,000 people. Fraunhofer Institute for Ceramic Technologies and Systems in Dresden, Germany is a well established player in European high temperature fuel cell technology, primarily focusing on SOFC technologies. This paper however covers the application of another IKTS technology, of LTCC (low temperature co-fired ceramics) technology to PEM hydrogen fuel cells, especially micro fuel cells. As a technology development partner Fraunhofer develops technologies for commercial partners and industrializes these together with the industry.
