The purpose of this work was to explore the creationof photoatomic multi-group cross section libraries to beused with a software package DOCTORS (DiscreteOrdinates Computed TOmography and RadiographySimulator) [1]. This software solves the linear Boltzmannequation using the discrete ordinates method. To createthese libraries, NJOY2016 was used, creating both fine andbroad energy multi-group cross section files. The crosssection’s accuracy was tested against an equivalent MonteCarlo simulation using MCNP6.Two simulation geometries were used. The first, acylindrical water phantom with a single source projectionplaced in front, simulating an X-ray radiography. Thesecond used the same water phantom with 16 cone beamsources placed evenly around the phantom to simulate acomputed tomography (CT) scan. The accuracy of the fineenergy multi-group cross sections when used in DOCTORShas been verified. The accuracy of the broad energy multigroupcross sections when used in DOCTORS shows thatmore work must be done before they can be used reliably.
