An integrated approach in the design of new, or upgraded, railway lines is presented in this paper. The approach is based on utilizing a set of common input data - usually used in the design of track layouts, overhead line, signalling system and timetables - to assess systems integration and interface issues between the power supply, signalling system and rolling stock traction equipment. The compatibility assessments are performed in an integrated manner that considers the precise details of the infrastructures, traction supply and rolling stock.
