Analytical and computational study of the inductance in a power reactor

Reactors are equipment used in electrical power systems to reduce or even suppress some undesirable effects, such as increasing the magnitude of voltage during the light load regime. One of the main parameters of the reactor design is the nominal reactive power, which is directly related to the phase inductance. Thus, in this paper, computational simulations using the Finite Elements Method (FEM) were employed in the inductance calculation. Calculations performed using simplified analytic expressions were compared with the value obtained by FEM. Additionally, the role of the air gap in reactors was discussed. The realized study highlighted the potentialities of the use of computational simulations for the magnetic analysis of reactors.
