Simulation of a real distribution network with permanent and transient softwares

With increased demand, it is often necessary to increase the power supplied or to insert new points of power generation in the distribution network. However, the short-circuit levels may increase in network, which requires to simulating these new conditions in robust and reliable software. This paper shows a comparison between the results obtained by two specific software for electric power networks: the Open Distribution System Simulator (OpenDSS) and the Alternative Transients Program (ATP). The simulated model considers data from a real distribution system, located in Brazilian city (Arma??es dos Búzios). The results were compared with obtained data by the two software, for some values of simulated voltages and short-circuits in steady state. The simulated results are similar, which allows the validation of the modeled network.
